The Role

The role is a leadership role in the 2nd line merchant risk organisation in Worldline Group, with specific focus on GBL Merchant Services. The role is accountable for risk and compliance assurance for all Worldline entities globally. The selected candidate / role holder will support the Head of Group Merchant Risk (2nd Line) in ensuring that the Worldline Group’s scheme risk and compliance assurance and appetite are managed within agreed risk appetite. The role holder will be accountable for the assurance management and policy development for the scheme risk and compliance function and will be the main liaison between 2nd Line and the 1st Line Risk & Compliance. 

The key responsibilities: 

Develop and Manage Scheme Risk & Compliance Policies

    • Ensure that there are clear scheme risk and compliance policies and guidance available to the business and 1st Line Risk & Compliance (policy owner)
    • Define, review, and maintain adequate risk and compliance assurance key indicators informing policies and guidance
    • Define, review, and maintain specific risk assurance and compliance policies for non-merchant customers (acceptance entities, merchant service providers, third party agents)
    • Define, review, and maintain a customer review framework, reflecting operating rules and requirements set by Worldline’s commercial licensors (e.g., Visa and MasterCard)
    • Perform testing of adequacy and effectiveness of 1st Line’s scheme risk and compliance controls, and suggest amendments based on test results 

Documentation, Industry and Data Insights & Risk Appetite

    • Periodic review of existing risk appetite statement/business practices for scheme risk and compliance assurance
    • Suggest changes to scheme risk appetite and keep risk appetite under continuous review
    • Ensure that applicate merchant risk and compliance rules and requirements, as well as all applicable acceptance rules, issued by Worldline’s licensors are reflected in group scheme risk and compliance assurance polices
    • Endeavour to ensure that Worldline’s scheme risk and compliance assurance policies and business practices are benchmarked against comparable acquirers and markets
    • Define, review, and maintain required data extraction methodologies and processes in support of monitoring and achieve systemic views of transaction data and data attributes
    • Define data requirements and extraction methodologies to applicable GBL or Product Owner for non-merchant acceptance entities
    • Identify relevant industry fora where scheme related risk and compliance issues are discussed, and networks and knowledge are traded

Stakeholder Management (Internal & External)

    • Act as an interface with commercial licensors and develop on matters relating to scheme related risk and compliance issues concerning payment processing and acceptance rules in conjunction with 1st Line Risk and Compliance
    • Provide authoritative advice and guidance to WLG and GBL MS executive management on scheme risk and compliance assurance matters
    • Build and maintain autonomous relationships with commercial licensors and define a communication approach with the main licensors (in conjunction with 1st LoD and Scheme Relationship Management) 
    • Ensure adequate input from commercial and product teams in reviewing and amending scheme risk appetite and assurance polices
    • Build and maintain relationships with scheme relationship management and 1st LoD Risk & Compliance

Governance & Consultation

    • Act as the principal interface on all matters scheme risk and compliance assurance with group and local governance fora (e.g. risk committees, board meetings etc).
    • Act as the final arbiter of the risk and compliance schemes rules vis a vis 1st Line Risk & Compliance and governance fora
    • Ensure that adequate data is available to underpin recommendations or decisions
    • Produce and present required materials and data to group and local governance fora
    • Record and follow up on decisions made in governance fora, and escalate concerns as applicable to the Group Head of Merchant Risk
    • Ensure that reporting to other group functions and governance fora is in place
    • Ensure that subject matter expertise in the 1st line risk organisation is consulted and used for clarification and policy development as necessary
    • Ensure that functions in 1st line Risk & Compliance organisation are consulted on process and policy as applicable

Education, Experience & Qualities 

This role requires the role holder to be educated to degree level (risk management, MBA, accounting or law). Any specific qualifications in risk management or compliance are a plus. Practical knowledge gained through work experience may compensate for a lack of formal qualifications.

The Education, Experience & Qualities required for the role as follows:

  • Relevant education in risk and business disciplines. Degree level required.
  • Management experience: 5+ years minimum
  • Work experience 10 years minimum, risk and compliance roles experience an essential advantage
  • Experience from regulated industries and roles is essential
  • Experience from FinTech, banking, financial services, franchise management, payment schemes is highly desirable
  • Experience from the retail ecosystem, i.e., large retailers and payment facilitators, marketplaces, and similar providers
  • Proven skills in data analysis
  • Proven skills and experience in managing stakeholders and dealing with senior and executive management
  • Demonstrable experience in self-management and working to objectives and priorities
  • Proven ability to present complex and ambiguous commercial and regulatory issues to senior and executive management 
  • Skills in influencing and negotiation advantageous
